Programmes for 2010-11
Josquin Desprez: Transfer in Mysteria
This revolutionary new project, to be recorded by ECM later this year, has now expanded to 2 singers and 2 vihuelas. Conventionally this music is thought of as a cappella, but we know from the surviving intabulations that a far more common way of performing this repertoire was with instruments. In this programme, which will contain chant, a mass and motets, Anna Maria Friman and John Potter will be joined by Ariel Abramovich and Lee Santana, a sound that probably hasn’t been heard since the 16th century.

Ariel Abramovich
with John Potter
:: John Potter & Ariel Abramovich (vihuela & lute) ::
John & Ariel perform regularly in Spain. Current programmes include A Musical Banquett, the 400th anniversary of which falls in 2010, and recitals of Dowland as well as many lesser-known lute song composers. The duo will perform for the first time in the UK at the Birmingham Early Music Festival in November.
:: John Potter & Jan Walters (medieval harp) ::
John renewed his partnership with American harpist Jan Walters at the Otto IV celebrations in Braunschweig last year with a highly successful programme of Minnelieder, trouvére and troubadour songs, together with English music from the same period. Future programmes will include songs from the Carmina Burana as well as early English sacred music.
